Frequently asked questions

What is the “Mother” in Apple Cider Vinegar?
The “Mother” is a naturally formed culture that develops during vinegar fermentation. It contains acetic acid bacteria within a cellulose-rich structure and may appear as cloudy strands or sediment in the bottle. Because this Apple Cider Vinegar is raw, unfiltered and unpasteurised, the naturally occurring Mother remains in the vinegar.
Why does Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother look cloudy or have sediment?
Cloudiness, strands or sediment are natural in unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother. They form as part of the fermentation process and do not by themselves mean that the vinegar has spoiled. Shake the bottle well before use to redistribute the naturally occurring Mother.
What do raw, unfiltered and unpasteurised mean in Apple Cider Vinegar?
Raw, unfiltered and unpasteurised describe how the vinegar is handled after fermentation. Unfiltered ACV retains naturally occurring suspended material and the Mother instead of being clarified until completely clear, while unpasteurised means it has not undergone pasteurisation. These processing choices help retain the natural character and visible Mother of the vinegar.
Where do the apples in Honey & Spice Apple Cider Vinegar come from?
Our Apple Cider Vinegar is made from real apples sourced from orchards in Himachal Pradesh. The apples undergo natural fermentation to create the vinegar’s characteristic fruity acidity and bold, tangy flavour.
How should I dilute Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother before drinking?
Dilute 5–7 ml of Apple Cider Vinegar in about 200 ml of water before drinking. Always consume it diluted rather than straight, as vinegar is highly acidic. Undiluted or frequent exposure to acidic vinegar can irritate the throat and contribute to tooth-enamel erosion.
How is Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother different from filtered Apple Cider Vinegar?
The main difference is filtration and processing. Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar retains the naturally occurring Mother and suspended material that give it a cloudy appearance, while filtered vinegar has these visible particles largely removed. Honey & Spice Apple Cider Vinegar is also unpasteurised, so it retains the natural character of the fermented vinegar rather than being clarified into a completely clear product.
