Frequently asked questions

What makes Sunflower Honey different from other floral honeys?
Sunflower Honey is a monofloral honey made predominantly from nectar collected from sunflower blossoms. It has a bright golden-yellow appearance and a light, floral sweetness with a subtle tang and refreshing citric finish, giving it a fresher profile than darker, more robust honeys.
What does monofloral mean in Sunflower Honey?
Monofloral honey is honey in which one floral source provides the dominant nectar—in this case, sunflower blossoms. Bees still forage naturally, but during the sunflower flowering period, the abundant sunflower blooms become the main nectar source, giving the honey its characteristic colour, aroma and flavour.
Why does Sunflower Honey crystallise quickly?
Sunflower Honey naturally tends to crystallise faster than many other honey varieties because of its natural glucose-to-fructose balance. As glucose forms crystals, the honey can gradually become thicker, creamy or more solid. This is a normal physical change in honey and does not mean the honey has spoiled. Scientific studies also identify sunflower honey as a naturally fast-crystallising variety.
Does crystallisation mean Sunflower Honey is adulterated?
No. Crystallisation is a natural process and, by itself, does not indicate adulteration or spoilage. Sunflower Honey is especially prone to crystallising relatively quickly because of its natural sugar composition. If you prefer it more liquid, place the closed jar in lukewarm water and allow it to soften gradually.
Where does Honey & Spice Sunflower Honey come from?
Sunflower Honey is sourced from sunflower-growing regions in the North Indian plains, with the current product sourcing centred around Ambala and Kurukshetra. Bees forage during the sunflower flowering period, producing a honey shaped by the region’s abundant yellow sunflower blooms.
How is Sunflower Honey different from Mustard Honey?
Both are monofloral field honeys, but they come from different flowers and have different flavour and texture profiles. Sunflower Honey is bright golden-yellow with a light floral taste, subtle tang and citric lift, while Mustard Honey is lighter and milder, with a naturally creamy texture and gentle floral sweetness. Mustard Honey is sourced from mustard fields along the Brahmaputra River Belt, whereas the current Sunflower Honey sourcing is linked to Ambala and Kurukshetra.
